Shadow Defence Minister Brendan O’Connor says the Morrison government has failed to deliver the defence capabilities Australia needs.
“In almost a decade, they have not delivered the assets that they’ve promised,” Mr O’Connor said.
“It’s also fair to say that the Morrison government’s made some serious national security mistakes, some significant foreign policy missteps.
“They’ve had six defence ministers in nine years. They’ve had four defence ministers in four years under Scott Morrison, which has resulted in inadequate oversight and focus on this portfolio.
“We need a government that won’t offend our friends.
“We need a government that engages more in our region. Frankly, friends, we need to do better.”
