‘Careful’ approach required for China sanctions

Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says Australia needs to be careful on sanctioning China as global tensions escalate.

Mr Conroy said any sanctions on China need to be proportionate and sustained, noting the global importance of the Chinese economy.

“China will retaliate,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We need to be careful. I’m all for making sure that we apply maximum pressure but we just need to be proportionate.”
