
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has met with top Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi to stress the economic penalties China would face if it provides military support to Russia.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported the meeting had taken place in Rome but provided no other details.
Mr Sullivan planned to warn his Chinese counterpart of the global isolation and trade consequences Beijing could face if they continued to support Russia.
US officials yesterday reported Russia had asked China for military equipment after its invasion of Ukraine.
