Lawyer and Commentator Caroline Di Russo says the Queen needed to “protect the institution” of the royal family from Prince Andrew’s civil case.
It comes as the Queen has stripped Prince Andrew of his military titles and royal patronages.
Prince Andrew faces a civil case in the United States over claims he sexually assaulted a woman when she was 17.
“Ultimately, the Queen is the head of an institution,” Ms Di Russo told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
“And if these proceedings are going to go ahead, which it looks like they will now, well then I think the Queen has given Andrew probably about as much space and probably a bit more than he could have hoped for.”
