The National Seniors group is offering a “real solution” to Australia’s worker shortage by calling for the aged pension to be redesigned so older Australians aren’t financially punished if they continue working, says Sky News host Chris Smith.
“You take New Zealand; 25 per cent of the over 65s there are still working,” he said.
“That’s because Kiwis don’t lose their pension when they work; they just pay tax on that extra pay packet. Does that not make sense?
“Pensioners here, well they earn more than $240 a week, you lose 50 cents in the dollar.”
Mr Smith discussed the issue with National Seniors Australia Chief Advocate Ian Henschke.
