Omicron has overtaken the Delta variant as Victoria’s dominant COVID-19 strain as case numbers continue to grow.
Of the state’s positive cases 1.7 per cent were identified as Omicron two weeks ago – new sample testing indicates Omicron has become the most common strain across the state.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton confirmed this in his daily update on Saturday, saying:
"Community sample testing of positive cases for the Omicron variant indicates that it is now the dominant strain of COVID-19 in Victoria," he said.
There are currently more than 24 thousand 1 hundred active cases in the state.
