Australia’s tourism industry has lost the last four school holiday periods in a row due to the ongoing COVID situation along with travel restrictions and lockdowns.
The hospitality industry has also endured its worst 18 months in history and has been left with extreme staff shortages.
Both sectors are relying on a strong holiday period to help with the recovery.
Australian Hotel Association CEO Stephen Ferguson says the regions is where they will “struggle” the most with staff shortage.
“One of the things we’re looking to do is, in those areas, engage people that live in those communities, to walk into their local pub, café, club, restaurant, and see if there’s any work available,” Mr Ferguson told Sky News Australia.
“All they need is a great attitude; training can be provided to them, they will need a Responsible Service of Alcohol training, but, as I say, all types of training will be available.”
