Sky News host James Morrow says if China wants to be a “superpower,” they can’t “bully” their way into it, they have to communicate with others.
It comes as on Wednesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison followed the Unites States’ lead and announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
“This has been under consideration for some time, the Biden administration did it, so there was almost no consideration that we wouldn’t be there, the question is just when we were going to announce it,” Mr Morrow told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“The thing I find hilarious about this is the anger of the Chinese government about this, I mean, their message is basically saying ‘come to our games or else’.”
Mr Morrow said Australians need to understand “what China wants” because Australia would not be anything like the “free and vibrant” country we are now if we gave in to China’s demands.
