‘Technology not taxes’: Taylor pushes electric vehicle policy

Energy Minister Angus Taylor says the government’s plan for electric vehicles is built on technology and not taxes.

“This plan is built on the back of the core principles: technology, not taxes; choices, not mandates,” Mr Taylor said.

“A portfolio of technologies, not just one – batteries, plug-in hybrids, hydrogen vehicles – all of them are part of the mix of technologies that can bring down emissions in our economy, decarbonising our transport systems and provide better products in the process: that is the heart of the strategy.

“What we are announcing today is an extra $178 million for this future brief fuels and vehicle strategy on top of the $72 million we have already committed.

"That is $50 million total: we expect to bring $500 million total investment will include private sector investments.”
