‘A lot has been read into’ what Melbourne will do for Australia Day

Sky News host Paul Murray says “a lot has been read into” what Melbourne will do for Australia Day celebrations next year.

Nicholas Reece, the Deputy Mayor of Melbourne, said Melbourne celebrates Australia Day “big time”.

“We have the biggest citizenship ceremony certainly in the state, possibly in the country,” he told Mr Murray.

“It is possible to celebrate Australia Day in accordance with the fact it is a Commonwealth government declared holiday, and at the same time acknowledge that there are some dark chapters in our history.”
