Royal Children’s Hospital’s NICU closed after COVID scare

Victoria’s most vulnerable patients have been caught up in a COVID-19 scare after a positive parent visited the Royal Children’s Hospital’s neo-natal ICU on Friday.

The visitor, who later tested positive, has forced the closure of the intensive care unit with 29 patients caught up in the incident.

Concerningly, there are reports that several other parents who attended the hospital have since tested positive for the virus, forcing 50 people into isolation.

It comes as Victoria recorded its single highest daily death toll of the Delta outbreak with 1,571 new cases and 13 fatalities.
