QLD CHO calls for greater vaccine uptake, says Delta outbreak inevitable

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young has renewed calls for residents to get vaccinated after admitting it was only matter of time before Delta snuck inside the state’s borders.

Queensland Health administered 22,351 vaccines in the past 24 hours with 67.76 per cent of the eligible population now single dosed and 48.89 per cent fully vaccinated.

“You have got one of the best public health units in the state who’s done a really, really good job managing the virus til now,” said Dr Young.

“But eventually, and it possibly won’t be long, we will see Delta variant come in and it won’t be able to be controlled.

“The only control will be the number of people who are vaccinated – we know that the vaccine is very effective, very safe.”
