The Australia Institute’s Ben Oquist says Australians “shouldn’t be listening to Matt Canavan” regarding climate change and reaching a net zero target.
The Nationals senator has been outspoken about his opposition to the proposed climate targets, saying in recent weeks he would defy his party room if they made a commitment to net zero.
“Matt’s an outlier, of course he’s entitled to his opinion but it’s not an opinion that represents the people of Queensland, the people of Australia, or what our economy needs or dare I say it – what the planet needs,” Mr Oquist told Sky News Australia.
“Unfortunately, some of his language … seems to infect Barnaby Joyce and his language.
“We’ve got to get past that.”
