Sydney lord mayor ‘backflips’ on Sydney’s 9pm NYE fireworks

City of Sydney Councillor Linda Scott says she is "really pleased" Lord Mayor Clover Moore has backflipped on the decision to cancel the city’s 9pm NYE fireworks.

While the midnight fireworks were always set to go ahead, the 9pm fireworks display was initially cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

However Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore recently reversed the decision following conversations with the NSW government.

Ms Scott told Sky News Australia it has been an "extraordinary evening" in the City of Sydney.

"I’ve been inundated with calls from communities, from businesses who wanted the 9pm fireworks to proceed," she said.

"So I am really pleased to see the lord mayor has backflipped on that."
