Hail and heavy rain impact parts of New South Wales

A severe storm has swept across the New South Wales east coast with Greater Sydney being the worst affected.

Some areas in the city’s west and south experienced hail as 22.6 millimetres of rain fell at the Sydney airport catchment and more than 40 millimetres at Holsworthy.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s severe thunderstorm warning was cancelled around 6pm.

The storm was part of a large-scale weather event which caused two tornadoes, one near Bathurst and another in Narrabri, on Thursday.

Conditions across the state are expected to improve today.
