Anti-vax protest falls flat as Victoria Police make several arrests

An anti-vaccination demonstration has been dispersed after Victorian Police swooped down on protesters marching the streets of Melbourne on Saturday.

Demonstrators initially assembled at the foot of the city’s Shrine of Remembrance – the site of chaotic protests last week – to protest a mandate requiring Victoria’s essential workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

However, any chance for a repeat of last week’s scenes were quickly snuffed out after several protesters were arrested.

It came as Victoria reported two deaths and a record-breaking 1,488 new locally acquired cases in the previous 24 hours.
