Federal government ‘betting on technology’ in pathway to net-zero: Frydenberg

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the pathway forward to net-zero emissions is about “betting on technology” not taxes.

It comes as climate debates are heating up ahead of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, with the Coalition seeing a divide over whether to commit to a net-zero by 2050 target.

"We’re working through our plan, we haven’t made any formal decisions," Mr Frydenberg told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

"We’ve already put down around $20 billion of commitment in various forms to reduce our carbon footprint.

"But also it’s about betting on new technologies not taxes as the pathway forward.

"Our technology investment roadmap is a way of ensuring that government money can leverage further investment from the private sector."
