Queensland to debate voluntary assisted dying

Queensland MPs will debate the historic voluntary assisted dying legislation which is set to be introduced to parliament today.

MPs will be given a conscience vote due to the nature of the legislation and is the first conscience vote in Queensland parliament since 2018.

There are to be no changes to the bill when it is debated in parliament but there are strict conditions to accessing the care.

Those who wish to have an assisted death will need to be over the age of 18, they must have a terminal illness which is likely to cause death within 12 months and they must have the capacity to make the decision themselves.
