From Siberian orphan to Paralympic swimming legend – Jessica Long’s impossible journey

Born Tatiana Olegovna Kirillova in rural Siberia, Jessica Long was abandoned by her teenaged birth parents and adopted by an American family at 13 months. Because of a birth condition called fibular hemimelia, her lower legs were amputated when she was 18 months old. She grew up to become on of the most successful Paralympians ever, winning her 29th medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in September 2021.
