New South Wales records 1,599 new infections

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard says the state has recorded 1,599 cases overnight, taking the total of positive throughout the pandemic to 42,000 infections.

Mr Hazzard said eight more people had lost their lives to the virus, six men and two women, with one being in their 30s.

He urged residents to get vaccinated and said there were 114,546 jabs administered yesterday, taking New South Wales to just past the eight million mark.

He said 77.3 per cent of the eligible population had received their first vaccine and 44.5 per cent were fully vaccinated.
