Safe reopening will depend on the strain on healthcare systems: Burke

Opposition spokesman for Industrial Relations Tony Burke says public policy will need to factor in the “exact implications” of safely reopening with the ability of health care systems to cope with COVID-19 outbreaks.

“What people want to be able to do, what public policy needs to make sure we can do at every level of government is to make sure that we’re opening up safely, that’s really important,” he told Sky News Australia.

“The exact implications of that will be different in different parts of the country in terms of where you’re already at and where your hospital systems are at.

“We still have a situation where we need a hospital system that isn’t already overwhelmed if anything else goes wrong with our health.”
