Pakistan calls on western nations to engage with Taliban

Pakistan’s foreign minister is calling on western nations to engage with the Taliban or face the prospect of a humanitarian catastrophe.

He has also criticised foreign leaders for ignoring his country’s concerns about ending the Taliban’s presence in Afghanistan and has warned of the risk of a new civil war.

The government says it is already host to as many as four million Afghan refugees and if there is another mass exodus because the state collapses, the consequences will be dangerous for both the region and for the world.
