US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has botched the name of the former president of Afghanistan during an interview on Sunday.
During an interview with US network CBS, Secretary Blinken said he spoke to Hamid Karzai about the Afghan’s army’s willingness to stand up to the Taliban.
However, Hamid Karzai led Afghanistan’s first government after the Taliban were deposed in 2001 and was president until 2014.
Ashraf Ghani was Afghanistan’s most recent president but he was ousted when the Taliban took back the country this month.
After Kabul fell, President Ghani fled Afghanistan, reportedly with millions of dollars in cash.
The Biden administration is under enormous pressure for its handling of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
