‘Virtue signalling gone wrong’: Canadian Gender Equality Minister makes Taliban appeal

The Canadian Gender Equality Minister’s appeal to the Taliban was a "case of virtue signalling gone wrong," according to Sky News contributor Daisy Cousens.

Maryam Monsef, the Canadian Minister for Women and Gender Equality, referred to the Taliban as "our brothers" in her appeal for them to "stop the violence" in Afghanistan.

Ms Cousens said Monsef, following backlash, tried to "fob it off" as a "cultural thing".

"No decent person should be calling the Taliban brothers," Ms Cousens said.
