There shouldn’t be a ‘push for racial divide’ during the pandemic: Price

Alice Springs Deputy Mayor Jacinta Price says there shouldn’t be a “push for a racial divide” at a time where communities need to stick together.

It comes after Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe said "systemic racism" is the reason why the ADF – rather than people more connected to the Indigenous community – was sent to aid in the vaccination rollout among Indigenous Australians.

Ms Price told Sky News host Andrew Bolt the Greens Senator was doing Australians a "disservice" with her comments.

“In my opinion, I find it deeply concerning, deeply disturbing that someone who has those responsibilities as a leader would try to create that stigma as well as try to paint Indigenous Australians as victims once more," Ms Price said.

“If you’re a leader of this country, you shouldn’t be encouraging that in any way, shape, or form, there’s a lot of misinformation already out there.

“What you need to focus on is pushing the message to Aboriginal people, vulnerable Aboriginal people, to get vaccinated, look after themselves and look after their families, that’s the only message that should be going out there.”
