‘I’m safe’: Afghan aid worker who assisted Australian troops safely flees Kabul

An Afghan aid worker, who hid after the Taliban surged to power, has arrived in the United Arab Emirates after successfully escaping Kabul.

"Bibi" – who served alongside Australian troops during the 20-year war effort – went into hiding with just two watermelons and one water bottle after it was understood his life was under threat from insurgents.

"I’m totally fine, everything is alright with me," he told Sky News Australia.

"Yesterday, I have left Afghanistan; right now, I’m in the [United] Arab Emirates, in Dubai.

"I’m safe … I’m feeling really happy, there is no security threats for me."
