Lockdown ‘hasn’t tempered’ demand for properties

REA Group Economist Anne Flaherty says lockdowns have not "tempered” demand for properties, with many people “rethinking their living arrangements”.

“Often … what we saw during Melbourne’s experience last year was that sometimes the lockdown can make people rethink their living arrangements, whether that be … leaving a sharehouse, or the need for additional space for a home office,” Ms Flaherty told Sky News Australia.

“It’s … clear that despite the fact that people are in lockdown, that really hasn’t tempered demand.

“And in fact, it’s possible that … the lockdown is actually spurring people on.

“In Queensland, we actually saw a new record broken, so more people searching to buy property in Queensland than we’ve ever seen.”
