Data shows vaccinating Australian youth will reduce spread of COVID-19

New data shows vaccinating more than three million Australian children and teenagers will significantly reduce the spread of COVID-19 and give them protection against the virus.

The University of Melbourne found immunising those aged under 15 could halve the infection rate and predicted it would reduce the likelihood of a lockdown by one third.

An estimated 70 per cent of those aged over 16 are predicted to be fully inoculated by early November with the number rising to 80 per cent by November 21.

The urgency to get Australia’s youth vaccinated comes after state governments express their concern over the impact of the Delta strain on young people.
