US commentators ‘incredibly’ think there’s a chance the Taliban ‘had a makeover’

Some US commentators incredibly seem to think there’s a chance the Taliban has “had a makeover” despite its previous occupation of Afghanistan having been characterised by “theocratic rule,” according to Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

It comes following news Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, succumbed to Taliban forces this week, months after the withdrawal of US and allied forces.

“It was no surprise that the Taliban would again become dominant as the Americans scaled down their forces,” Mr Houghton said.

“What was surprising was that some commentators were pretty blasé about this when the withdrawal was announced.”
