‘Today is a bad day’: Victoria records 55 new cases

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says the state has recorded 55 new COVID-19 cases overnight with six of those being mystery cases.

“Just 25 of those were in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period so that is a very significant challenge, that makes today a bad day,” he said.

Mr Andrews said there would be “no rule changes today” to the restrictions imposed on Melbourne but there were to be discussions to see if “there’s any more that we can do in terms of rules and settings.”

“I want to just map out for people what’s involved if this gets away from us, hundreds and hundreds of cases every day and hundreds – indeed potentially thousands – of people in hospital,” he said.
