Net zero emissions target will do ‘absolutely nothing’ for climate change: Canavan

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says Australia – which makes up 1.3 per cent of the world’s emissions – committing to a net zero target will do “absolutely nothing” prevent .

“What we need of course to have any material impact on our weather is for countries right around the world … it will require lots of other people to act as well,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.

“Including the world’s largest emitter China, China emits as much emission as we do in 16 days, we’re talking about as much emission as we do in a year in 16 days.

“Is a net-zero target necessary you ask? Well, I don’t think it’s the best policy to even do what the people who wanted to put it in place want.”
