Afghan president a ‘political crook’ for fleeing during recapture of Kabul

Sky News host Cory Bernardi has labelled Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani a "political crook", accusing the former leader for lying in order to abandon his country in the wake of the Taliban’s recapture of Kabul.

“Despite all we did, what I am claiming are the cowardly Afghan army couldn’t even be bothered to fight for their own country,” Mr Bernardi said.

“But what is also appalling, and I find rather extraordinary, is how the western media, who repeatedly demonstrate the contempt for their own culture, seemed to have embraced the regime change.

“So, while many fourth estate columnists relish the effective defeat of the United States by this band of medieval barbarians, the Taliban are not going to be a force for good in the world.

“And when, as inevitably it will, the hard stuff really does hit the fan, there’s going to be no one to call to clean up the mess.”
