WA Premier announces new border regime with NSW

Western Australia will become the first state in Australia to require travellers coming into the state to be vaccinated upon entry.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced approved travellers from NSW will be required to provide proof of having had their first dose of a COVID vaccine.

The tight border regime will come into effect from August 17, after NSW recorded its highest COVID case numbers since the start of the pandemic with 390 locally acquired cases.

A WA hard border will be introduced with the ACT from midnight after transitioning their status to a ‘medium risk’.
