Unlinked cases of ‘particular concern’ in Victoria

Victorian Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton says three unlinked COVID cases are of particular concern which is why authorities need to “get on top" of mystery cases "as much as possible".

This came after the state recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases.

“These are individuals who don’t know that they were infectious at the time. They’ve developed symptoms, they’ve gotten tested and done the right thing, they’re now isolating,” Professor Sutton said.

“They’ve been out in the community within the restrictions that are imposed in the lockdown but still shopping for food, going out for essential reasons.”

He said the exposure sites of these cases are “quite numerable” because “that individual wasn’t already identified as a primary close contact”.

“That’s the challenge of mystery cases. That’s why we need to get on top of them as much as possible.”
