NSW records two COVID-19 deaths overnight

New South Wales Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne Gale she is “very sad" to be notified of two COVID-19 deaths overnight.

Dr Marianne Gale said the first death was a man in his late 90s from Newcastle who died at RFBI Hawkins Masonic Village in Edgeworth and had received two doses of a vaccine.

“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to that family at this time,” she said.

She said the second death was a woman in her 40s who had died at her home in south-western Sydney, and had been a close contact of another confirmed case.

“She tested positive on August seventh and was unvaccinated, and the Local Health District will be investigating her death, and also be referring it to the coroner.

“Again, our sincere, heartfelt condolences to her family."
