Taliban now controls nine regions in Afghanistan

The Taliban has seized three more provincial capitals in Afghanistan in a bid to retain control of the country’s northeast.

The rapid advance comes just weeks before the US finalises its troop withdrawal.

The violence has caused tens of thousands of civilians to flee Kabul, with growing concerns over the government’s ability to maintain control of the city, as the terror group claims two-thirds of the country.

All American troops will be removed from the region by September 11.
