Melbourne lockdown likely to be extended

Victoria’s lockdown is set to end on Thursday, but an extension is looking likely after 20 new local cases were recorded on Tuesday.

Only five of the 20 cases were in isolation during their infectious period.

Premier Daniel Andrews would like the numbers to be much lower before restrictions are eased and leading epidemiologists have indicated figures need to be in the single digits before the lockdown is lifted.

However, the government gave no indications yesterday as to whether the lockdown would be extended.
