Fears of a ‘double-dip’ recession amid Sydney lockdown

There have been fears around a “double-dip” recession occurring in Australia due to the worsening COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“We are looking at a negative quarter of growth this quarter, but the federal government still believes it can avoid recession,” Mr Clennell said.

“Picture a scenario where Sydney largely opens up in November and December, that is part of that second quarter.

“That opening up can save the country from recession.”
