Premier Gladys Berejiklian has dismissed modelling suggesting New South Wales will not exit lockdown until September, insisting the actions of the state’s residents will ultimately determine the longevity of the current stay-at-home orders.
New data from the University of Melbourne predicts it will take up to five weeks for NSW to contain its current Delta outbreak.
“Remember the modelling we were presented with 18 months ago about the number of cases and deaths that would happen in Australia That didn’t materialise,” she said.
“The modelling can’t predict how many people are going to stay in their homes and not be mobile.
“The modelling is just an indicator for what could happen and different modelling gives you different results.
“What we need to do and what we need to rely on is our own actions because that is what will determine the outcome.”
