Over 10 million COVID jabs have been administered in Australia as hundreds of thousands of Pfizer doses touch down in Sydney.
The doses will be distributed across the country on a proportional basis after undergoing a check this week.
The Vaccine Taskforce Commander Lieutenant General John Frewen said it is unlikely under 40s will be able to easily access Pfizer any time soon following a report in the Courier Mail which suggested the TGA is considering approving Pfizer for over 12 year olds.
“Right now, Pfizer’s only licensed for over 16s,” Lieutenant Frewen said.
“We’ve got to stay focussed on the most vulnerable, so again it’s those cohorts, it’s people’s parents and people’s grandparents that we need to make sure we get done first.
“And we’ve got to keep focussed on those frontline workers, the frontline health workers, aged care workers.
“Those sorts of people really need to be the priority for now.”
